Ok so not much to look at at the visitors center, but don’t be alarmed because they buildings are spread out around the city of oak ridge. The town of oak ridge is the park! The ranger is super nice and informative and we talked for about 30 minutes. There is a 10 minute film that is pretty cool. I saw the K-25 building museum, which was also pretty cool. You simply must ring the bell as well.

Although there’s not much to do at this visitor center, the park ranger is very informative and willing to help with any type of questions! If you have a National Park Stamp book, don’t forget to bring it as they have two stamps here! Make sure to check out all the things to see in Oak Ridge as there’s a lot of history around!

Super disappointed in the visitors center. The volunteer was great and was eager to answer any questions. Sadly, this visitors center has been crammed into the corner of a childrens museum at the front check in. We tried to watch the movie, but listened to kids screaming and loud parents talking at the check in throughout the whole movie. At the very least, the NP needs to offer noise cancelling headphones. We were towing a camper, so we did not feel comfortable driving around town to all of the other sites that you could visit. They really need an area in the ORNL compound to be able do justice for this historical place.

I toured the National Historic park yesterday . The staff was very friendly and helpful. There's a lot of great information on the Manhattan program and I learned a lot of things I didn't know like 75,000 people living in the secret city. Lots of pictures and displays. There's a children's wing with everything from space exploration to bird displays.

This is not at typical national park visitor center (it’s really just a desk in the corner of the Children’s museum reception area) but it’s totally worth a stop to talk to the ranger on duty, pick up a map, and get an orientation to the dispersed sites you’ll find around the town of Oak Ridge. I f you like historical photos, it’s also definitely worth going inside the children’s museum (pay for admission) to see their exhibits about what life was like living in Oakridge during the Manhattan Project years. It’s not just for kids. That’s why I give this place five stars - because I really enjoyed the historical photos and also the exhibit here about the photographer who documented the Manhattan Project. I visited here, Y-12, K-25, and the gift shop at the ASME museum, and it took 4.5 hours- at a leisurely pace.
